Christmas Decorations
Decorating my front porch doesn't get any better during the holidays for me. It's one of my favorite tasks that I look forward too. It's also one that I used to stress about, because as the first impression you get when you drive up, it has to wow people.
As each year goes by I collect my holiday permanent pieces and use them over and over until I wear them out. The large 5 foot tall wreath is the first thing we hang and this year was a task! The Santa that's inside had to be hung separately due to the weight of it.
I also feel a little bit more at ease, if the wreath should fall for whatever reason. I feel like I need to be prepared for the worst and hope for the best, and so far this strategy has not failed me. Especially since if I had to replace it, it would cost hundreds for the wreath alone and I only paid 5 garage sale bucks for this baby about 9 years ago. I got a lot of crazy looks hauling this sucker down the street in July, but I bet those haters wish they hadn't passed it up.
I've been slowly buying Pier 1 lanterns for my porch stairs. I love them year round in this spot. The skates were an antique store purchase in a small town South of us, a couple of months ago.
I had forgotten to fill up the urns with greenery and tried to resort to "picks" at Hobby Lobby, but they were extremely low and what they had, I didn't care for. So I resorted to my tried and true cheat of buying garland at 50% off and cutting it up. One twelve dollar garland gave me 8 large picks! I also cleared out my local Home Depot of red berry picks for all my outside pots and two trees inside.
I also found some metal signs for the urns that matched my style, so those got popped in. Which was perfect as a filler in these pots. I left the small fire pit out. It is fast becoming a staple in the front yard. I had plans to light it tonight, because I knew I was going to take pictures, but sadly it has been raining all day. I was waiting for Snow, but haven't had any yet this December.
I still love a simple 8 feet of ribbon tied with two extra large pinecones hanging on my front door. A wreath on it looks a tad too over done since we have wreaths on all front windows as well.
I have filled the lanterns with glass and plastic red and black ornaments from wherever I can find them for cheap. I have been scouring Thrift stores for years now and have a list in my cell that has "Things to never pass up" and a brief description why, to remind me specifically what I want it for and it also urges me to not pass up good buys even if I don't need it right then.
I hope you enjoyed seeing a small piece of my world and what I've gotten done so far. Stay tuned for more!
Happy Holidays!
